There's this one provision that was leaked from the TPP, which allows corporations to sue a country if they perceive that a particular law is hurting their profits.

Do you remember when Australia kicked big tobacco's ass when they sued over the law requiring generic packaging for cigarettes and they were required to reimburse all of the Australian governments legal fees? Well, w/ the TPP, there will be these special tribunals set up to deal w/ these issues, but they'd be run by corporate lobbyists and what not. They're just corporate star chambers, essentially. All they would have to do is take the issue of generic packaging to one of these tribunals and get it struck down easily.

I'm not aware of any attempt at requiring tobacco products to be placed in plain packaging in the US, and I thought that they already did that in Australia and lost.

There's nothing in there about plain or generic packaging laws. It's about the DOJ sueing Big Tobacco for violating the RICO Act. There was a previous case where Big Tonacco was required to pay $206 billion dollars in damages. I think that was back in 1998.

Yes, and Phillip Morris lost their case against the Australian government, but I wasn't aware that Britain had plain packaging laws, too. Is PM appealing the decision in Australia?

There goes Australia's $15 minimum wage. It's okay, though, TPP will protect Australians from the tyranny of being paid a living wage.
