I hand loaded 50 rounds of 8x57IS for my K98. Being able to make your own ammo is awesome. Ammo shortage, caliber XYZ not in stock? Who cares, I roll my own! No need to reload when you have an endless supply of most glorious 7.62x54r manufactured sometime during the Cold War! I figure I'll get into reloading when x54 and x39 start getting scarce and expensive. What I'd really like to see is some damn .22LR around here... I'll dump a bunch of gun pics here in a bit. I've got like, a pile of them laying at my house. The real benefit to reloading is matching the ammo to your specific rifle. With most of my rifles I could double the accuracy compared to commercial ammo by experimenting with bullet weights, bullet seating depths and powder charges. Another huge benefit is I absolutely know that no round is a dud or dangerously overcharged, possibly damaging my gun. I have three friend who lost their rifles and one handgun through overcharged factory ammo, luckily no injuries. I cannot remember the last time I ran factory ammo through any of my guns, except my 22 of course. Here is some of the ammo I made. 8x57mm, 170 grain Speer HotCor softpoint, S&B brass, CCI primers, 50 grains of LS062. Velocity about 820 meters a second, pressure 3400- 3500 BAR.  |
