I recently watched it and it was not quite as bad as I was expecting. I figured if I went in with really low expectations and just turned part of my brain off at the very least it could be a somewhat entertaining action flick, and hey it managed to beat my ridiculously low expectations so there's that! I liked watching Rey, Finn and Poe just adventuring together to find the various mcGuffins and can't help but feel it was a massive missed opportunity that they weren't doing more of this earlier in the trilogy. While Rey may not be the most interesting character on her own I do feel she has some fun dynamics with the other characters which I can enjoy. I also thought Kylo's character was decent as well, and possibly the only one who really had any kind of arc in the trilogy. I didn't like what an utter mess the plot has become. It's one of those movies you just have to turn that logical part of your brain off otherwise it would drown in the stupidity of some of what's happening. It isn't as bad for character assassinations as The Last Jedi was but it does really kind of ruin Anakins story in a sense, or at the very least drastically downplays it.
I would call it the weakest trilogy in the saga. The prequels may have their flaws, but they at least had a direction from start to finish, whereas this final trilogy just made it up as they went along (and boy is it obvious). It also certainly doesn't have anywhere near the creativity nor does it reach really reach the same level of charm as the original trilogy did.
Okay Disney, I sat through your incredibly subpar trilogy. Now give me my god damn Ewan Mcgregor Obi Wan movie already. It is worse than TLJ in terms of character assassination. Palpatine for one. He announces his surprise attack? What if he had done that in ep 3 with Order 66? Then he dies form, literally, "stop hitting yourself". Rey being a Palpatine, and the chosen one, makes ep 1-6 utterly pointless. The Skywalkers never mattered because of this - and by extension; Kenobi and Yoda. I can't say him announcing his attack ruined his character for me anywhere near the same level that the decisions made on Lukes character did in TLJ. Was it an insanely dumb plot contrivance? Absolutely, and in fact he probably would have won if not for that ridiculous contrivance since it seems like it serves no purpose other than to give the rebels/resistance/w.e time to deal with him. Does taking such a meticulous schemer and having his character do something so pointlessly stupid hurt his character as a whole? Sure, I won't argue that but again, that one thing alone didn't drag down the whole film for me at the same level as it did in TLJ.
As for Rey being the chosen one as I said, I do feel it kind of ruins Anakins story arc, but not so much that it actually assassinates his character, although I will say I don't blame you for viewing it that way especially because I do see this whole thing as being a major detriment towards the saga as a whole and it does damage the significance of the prequels which is essentially Anakins story.
