'Saw it a few nights ago. Let me start with the negatives... (**Spoiler alert** obviously)
As a prequel/sidequel thingy, there was only so much suspense it could really build up; we know that Leia got the plans. Also, they did not really flesh out the main characters too much, probably because they were all offed in the end of it, but that just made me feel indifferent towards their deaths. Lastly, no Jedi, and very little Sith. That is fine, of course. It would have been worse to force it in (pardon the pun) unnecessarily for fan-service reasons, and they somewhat made up for it with that Force-Fu Master (lol). Still, those are the parts of this setting that I enjoy the most, so I ultimately could not enjoy this movie as much as I did TFA.
That being said, this movie was still very good and well-produced. The characters were compelling, even if I did not grow to truly care about them. Audio-visual effects, as always, were really good. I also thought that battle on the beach was pretty tight. I like battles where you have this much-weaker group knowing that they have no real chance of stopping the other side, just trying to hold out as long as they can. And, because there was no Jedi/Sith stuff up to that point, that Darth Vader scene really hit the spot.
So, yeah. Nice little movie, good way to hold me over 'til the next (moar Jedi/Sith-)Star Wars title too.
