I don't know if I'd say any given review was for me, I found another review that was more positive but had the same complaints I did. I know how I feel about the film though and I'm comfortable enough with that, but then I remember that this is but the beginning of a long line of attempts at extending this franchise into obscurity with more spin-off films. Yay... let's just take another bite out of the superhero formula.

Yeah, Jyn's character development is patchy at best. Still, I think they should've gone to Scarif instead of Eadu first.

Almost like license plates. Vader also had access to the ship Leia's ship had docked at. He could identify the ship well enough. It is also weird that he seems to think the death star plans got "beamed onto Leia's ship" in episode 4. He watched the plans get carried onto it. Physically. Her crew in episode 4 were dressed in the rebel uniforms too. The very same uniforms the rebels he had just slaughtered were wearing.

Is it mentioned in the novelization perhaps? If I understood it correctly, what Galen did was make the reactor unstable enough so that in the event of a direct hit it would go critical and destroy the Death Star. After watching the Dorkly video, I must admit that having exhaust ports in the Death Star makes sense.

A two meter exhaust port is hardly "building a weakness" into the Death Star, as it still took a space wizard to hit one precisely enough to trigger a chain reaction. More likely: SPOILER: Click to show Erso had in mind some rebel saboteurs would infiltrate the Death Star and blow it up from within.

It doesn't have any twists or major surprises. However I did enjoy the way the story was handled. The characters were all interesting shades of grey. There was some much needed nuance. Ultimately it is still a good guys versus bad guys tale. However some grittiness was definitely appreciated.
