Look at the sheer amount of horses he has when he attacks Mance Rayder. He had 10 000 men. Most of them on horseback. Yes, he also needs to attack and breach a castle. You need ladders and battering rams for that. "The greatest military mind in the Kingdom" would know that, really. Yet he didn't bring a single ladder. The whole storyline was rushed and poorly written. The only goal they had with that storyline was burning Shireen, so they could get high on more reaction-videos. The entire thing was nonsensical hence why I say in the novels, he will get a far better outcome if he actually makes it long enough to get that army Davos is fetching. Heck even if Manderly doesn't come through he still has a good deal of the Northern Houses aligned with him, He just needs to link up with their various armies and take Winterfell I assume that during this, he would bring ladders. |
