I'm unaware of the details but is there even a point in attacking Cersei? She's the queen of self sabotage, Dany and the Starks could rebuild the north, and the middle of the map, restock for winter and wait for Cersei to die of liver failure or get murdered by assassins send by some banks. Not really, no. The best approach would be to isolate King's Landing as much as possible. Cut off any supply routes, either through a blockade or specific acts of piracy. All Dany and the Starks need do is wait. They can, in the meantime, solidify their alliances and positions elsewhere, rebuild their armies and fleets. Eventually, Cersei will either run out of money to pay the Golden Company (I'm unsure how she even hired them in the first place) or food to feed the people. If it's the former, King's Landing will be left more or less defenseless. If it's the latter, chances are the people will try to overthrow Cersei themselves (they probably hate her enough already). Naturally, all of this takes time that the writers don't have, and they'd rather turn Dany into the Mad Queen and have her do just about every thing that runs contrary to basic strategy. In other words, there is no reason to attack Cersei right now other than that we have two episodes left and all the characters in GoT are idiots at this point so fuck 'em.
