(Not the "foreign-style" , but an Oatmeal instead) Upslope Oatmeal Stout A damn fine stout, with a subtle nose, and a bittersweet cocoa flavor. Deep dark brown/mahogany color. Strong on the finish, with a bit more lingering aftertaste than I like in a stout. This beer is pretty chewy, but not overly so. Perhaps could use a bit more heat and a creamier head. I like it quite a bit, but Guinness & Belhaven have it beat 7.5/10

Seriously, there's something like 40 breweries out there and in the surrounding area. I'm not sure if I have time, or room in my belly, for them all. Some of the highlights I plan on hitting: Burial - new and trendy Hi-Wire - solid rotation of quality beers Sierra Nevada - they have a really nice new facility with a gorgeous patio a few miles down the road Green Man - long time Asheville staple Catawba - don't knock the PB&J time, it's actually pretty fucking delicious Wicked Weed - maybe my favorite brewery right now. Top 5, easy. I'm really pumped about this one Oskar Blues - (if time and travel allow) largely responsible for making canned beer cool again I plan on eating lots of food, too. And looking at all the pretty fall colors in the mountains.
