And just to clear something up, AR-15s*, and Saiga/Vepr AKs are not machine guns. They are semi-automatic rifles that have been on the market since about 1964*. Other, 'less scary looking' semi-automatic rifles have been on the market even longer than that. 

Edit to add: Janky ass handguns are more commonly used in shootings than anything else. Easily concealable, can be had for under $300...

People act as if all homicides involving firearms were committed with a long gun, which they rarely are.

The policies don't work, though.

In terms of military grade... personally? I consider anything not designed for either hunting or pedestrian home defense (handguns and shotguns are, statistically speaking, the most effective for repelling a home invasion) to be military grade. They are weapons developed for war. People who are not part of active military or professional security should not have access to them. Period.

I'm going to bow out of this conversation. As I said in another thread, gun control is not a real issue in my mind, as there are much bigger fish to fry than trying to prevent the cause of less than 1% of the deaths per year. (3.5 basis points, or 3.5 per 100,000 deaths). It's totally pointless and brings out people who are on such the far end of the political spectrum as to make political discourse impossible.

I don't really see a problem with any of these... any opponents care to discuss why some of these are bad?

So guns that are purely used for target shooting are military grade?

How is it military grade if the military doesn't use it?

But not all deadly weapons are military-grade.
