Hmm...

Some random recommendations of books I liked/loved:

- Red Storm Rising. Probably my favourite novel of Tom Clancy, along with The Hunt for Red October. This one doesn't feature Jack Ryan though and it's based on a hypothetical war with the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

- I don't know if you're familiar with the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. The entire series is comprised of, roughly, 40 books, but I think all of them are self-contained. Some of my personal favourites are Small Gods, Going Postal, and Unseen Academicals. I haven't read them all myself yet.

- Anything by Isaac Asimov. His Robot Series, one of my favourites as I mentioned above, follows the partnetship of a detective Elijah Bayley and android R. Daneel Olivaw. It's comprised of four books (The Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun, The Robots of Dawn, Robots and Empire) though they're all self-contained. The Foundation series is also pretty good too, my favourite being Prelude to Foundation (also self-contained). The Robot Series, together with the Empire Series, lay the groundwork for the Foundation Series. All the stories are self-contained until we get to the Foundation Series, starting from Foundation and Empire onwards.

- A couple of high fantasy works from Greg Curtis: Maverick and The Arcanist. If you're feeling impatient, I suggest starting with the latter.

So read the whole thing even tho I didn't really need to for my current essay.

And it's great. Absolutely brilliant 'take down' (more like a critical analysis and exposure) of free-market - aka neoliberal - capitalism is bad and we can't operate under it any longer.

And refreshing.

Because he thinks capitalism is great and the best economic system ever founded.

So he's left-wing, but not exactly flying the red and black flags crying for the fall of capitalism, which makes his analysis for less biased and more objective than any socialist I might have read on the same issue.

So great book, very accessible too (though not a 'for dummies' book either.)

So yeah.

In conclusion.

Libertarians are mad.

As for its personal effects on me, since I've become more and more political over the last year.

It kind of made me realise that a lot of the more socialist activists aren't really helping when they denounce the liberal politician of today, or when they condemn people like Chomsky for good. If you are going to be 'fighting the good fight', then do it with the intention of making things better, even if it is within a system you disagree with just like how Marx applauded how the communists worked with the bourgeois in Germany. Don't pout in your sink holes and drown in your theory because capitalism hasn't been crushed or whatever.

That isn't helping the people who actually need help and could get that help even in the reorganisation of capitalism.

And a mechanic with an eye on the pilot.



The crew of the Fives Full are just trying to make enough money to keep themselves in the black while avoiding the attention of a government so paranoid it’s repealed Moore’s Law. They’re not looking for adventure in the stars . . . but they’re not going to back down just because something got in their way.

Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels are always a joy to read, so far anyway. If you've read any of his stories featuring the character of Moist von Lipzwig (Going Postal, Making Money, Raising Steam), The Truth works pretty much the same way, if with a different protagonist who's less of a crook but just as imaginative when faced with a challenge. As always, there's some interesting commentary about the role of journalists with the creation of Ankh-Morpork's first newspaper and where the truth fits into all this. And it just so happens that this coincides with a murder investigation involving none other than Vetinari himself! Certainly one of my favourite Discworld stories.

It's Timothy Zahn. What's the worst that could happen?

My friend got me into the Legend of Drizzt series and happened to give me access to her amazon account so that I could read them all through my tablet I've been reading the first book for about a week and just finished it, very good. So now I've begun reading the second novel in the series; The Legend of Drizzt: Exile, and am really enamored with the world~ I can't wait to get all caught up so that we can both talk about it more in-depth!

There's also a Drizzt tabletop board game! Be sure to bring that too~

I'm reading about the Spanish Civil war.

It's heartbreaking.

I hate it.
