The Historian Not quite the most boring book I've ever read, but definitely up there, which is shocking for a vampire novel (but really I've read only... what... 2 of those?). The characters all sound the same. The plot takes forever and constantly meanders into stories within stories realized through implausibly well written and improbably preserved discovered journals, letters, and ancient scrolls that weirdly describe people's obvious feelings before moving the plot along. It reminded me a little of playing a video game and uncovering some historic fact through found journals. In this way the story takes place in 3 epoch's - the writer's in the 1970s, her father's in the 1950's, and his mentor's in the 1920's. Each of them receive an enigmatic "invitation" to follow the historic evidence to discover the secrets of Dracula (spelled at least 3 different ways in the novel). I did enjoy how historically detailed the whole thing was, but it could have done with a few more plot twists just to keep the story interesting.
