Rian Johnson has revealed that the Knights of Ren weren't in Episode 8 because "We had a full movie already." Shame that he didn't cut out all of the Rose and Fin filler and dedicate those 40 minutes to showing us Luke grieving over Han, more of Rey training, the Knights of Ren, and some Snoke backstory.
No surprise considering they cut the scene of Luke mourning Han because it wasn't important but could afford to keep the scene of Luke milking an alien and drinking its milk
