This actually frustrates me a bunch There's been a whole lot of 'was Kylo lying' talk. Maybe Kylo wasn't telling the truth about Rey's heritage, but wasn't necessarily lying either. Watching it, that scene just came across to me as something he came up with, but not maliciously. Like, maybe he doesn't even know who they are. But they left a child on a shitty planet with some random asshole. So maybe he just read the writing on the wall, and gave a little fluff in there just to emote that they left Rey, and were evidently awful for doing so. End of. They're awful. Can fill in the blanks a bit but that one part's obviously a constant wether they're super special secret jedi agents who survived the purge and diddled around the galaxy, the twice removed cousin of Fred from the Knights of Ren and his wife, or FILTHY JUNK TRADERS WHO SOLD YOU FOR DRINKING MONEY. So they're not important no more. LET OLD THINGS DIE! COME HOLD HANDS WITH ME AND WE'LL LEAD A SPACE EMPIRE! If people are upset about the "Rey's parents are no one" twist is because The Force Awakens made a big deal about it in the first place, leading people to speculate who she might be related to. Hell, Kylo himself hints at knowing Rey in TFA. But, yeah, at the end of the day, someone did leave her on that planet, mostly alone, for a decade. Han seems to know who she is too. When he talks to Maz about it the scene cuts. When he talks to Leia about it the scene cuts. It was supposed to be a big deal, but as Disney confirmed recently; They had no plan for a trilogy. Each part got written "as they went along". The mother of all mistakes. No end-game was planned.
