That assumes that all countries in the EU will want them which quite a few doesn't want any or will only accept if them if they're Christians. Greece is already facing issues since a few islands which relies on mostly tourism to get by are being flooded with refugees. A lot of countries in eastern Europe have said no such Poland, Hungary, Slovakia(only Christians),and the Czech Republic. Plus most refugees are going to Germany, Sweden, the UK, and France because they know they're going to get great benefits at the cost of the people already living there. Most of them view the countries they're going through to be pit stops to the places I have mentioned. Germany is going even more problems since they're going to accept over 800,000 refugees by the end of this year. Already kicking the poor native born citizens out of their houses to make room for these people. So what do you with countries that have said no to this crap?

I think a lot of people missed the point regarding the letting a homeless guy in your home analogy.
It wasn't supposed to be a 1 for 1 analogy.

The point I was trying to make is that there is no obligation to let anyone in your country.
If you do it is an act of kindness.
That said yes there will be those abusing the generosity.

It does bug me that after going on a harrowing journey across the Mediterranean Sea they continue their journey through Europe to reach their desired nations.
Honestly I'd be happy to settle on the first available country that isn't a warzone.
Most European nations are currently free of civil war.

That assumes this is by choice and it's about not to be. France and Germany has been pressuring other countries to accept more refugees. Such as quotas being set up by the EU with Germany being the main proponent for this. 

The thing is most of these people want those huge benefits. They won't be able to get in some of the first countries they get in such as Italy, Greece, or Spain. 

While I wouldn't go for the locust comparison, keep in mind that while these people are just trying to get by they're actively hurting other people who are also just trying to get by.

After all, people don't just do all the hard work of a farm because they enjoy it. Not all of those farms can afford to spare a lot of the food they grow.

Plus if enough farmland gets damaged or stripped bare, it can cause food shortages in the area.

People will do what they think they need to in order to survive, but it's often done without any regard for the effects it will have on other people.

It would be hypocritical of my country to turn a blind eye to refugees considering we ourselves have been in the position of having people flee to escape war within the last century, especially since we currently still only take a proportionately very small amount of people in. I get incredibly frustrated when there's so many people here who completely lose their shit the minute they see someone even remotely brown walking down the street and go on the same old tirades about them taking their jerbs, they're all rapists, they're all terrorists etc

But all that really means is we're left with one big grey area. The farmers, land owners, whatever, are all understandably victims... but so are the refugees to have ended up in the situation their in in the first place. 

Admittedly its a case of one victimised party turning another into a victim. So I can see why some would see the refugees as in the wrong.

But I won't blame victims. Meaning neither party.

And honestly. In their shoes, would I do any different?

No.

And I'd find it very hard to believe anyone saying otherwise.

All this talk now, when a couple of years ago when the US talked about its immigration/refugee problem((people in mexico fleeing the cartel/illegally coming over for money)) everyone just brushed them((USA)) off as third-world racists.

Now that europe's got a problem with people from less economically well off nations going over to them, now we get the dehumanizing comparisons, the calls to kick them out and build a fence, it's all kinda funny to me at least, seeing the tables get somewhat evened out.

At least nobodies been as hot headed as some I've talked about this with. Some folks outright call for capital punishment for any people coming from foreign countries, as well as a military incursion into the region to wipe out the trouble makers and make the country these refugee's are fleeing from a puppet state to serve western interests.

This is an issue people are trying to solve in a matter of weeks or months, but in truth this is a problem that takes decades to solve. When early America went through its mass Immigration, it took decades for them to integrate well into the country, partially due to their host country not wanting them to be part of their country, and part because they didn't want to leave all their traditions, cultural ideals, and identities as immigrated nationals behind. Sound familiar? It took time, patients, a lot of pain, and a shift in the culture, for the mass influx of people to form a semi-solid and united society and not cause as much problems for everyone.

There's not going to be a good short term solution, period. If you want the various foreigners coming to your country to suddenly adopt to centuries of different societal norms, it's not gonna happen. If you really want a short term and immediate solution, detainment until their country restabalizes and they can be sent back is probably the only way to go. Believe me when I say this, the short term solutions are gonna be ugly as fuck. Like, basically we're making prison camps where all the refugees will be imprisoned. You can make it sound nice like an "Refugee Living Space" or "Foreign Acclimation Center" but in the end, it'll be holding them in 1 place against their will until they are figured out whether to send them back, or keep them there.

It's the only way to keep your so called precious cultural purity and economic unity from going through change. People will die from this action, and those who don't will hate your country and its people with a passion that you wouldn't believe. You can certainly expect a rise in extremist actions against Europe going through this route, or any short term route. But honestly, that's just how it is. You're doing the equivilant of detaining political fleers from the Soviet Union, and sending them back to face the Gulag and Secret Police's wrath.

If you can live with that blood on you hands, well there you go then. Your easy fix for a not easy problem.

And why I'm not a fan of having a section for it outright myself. Political stuff's just too damn inflammatory, even in a section where you're supposed to bear that in mind and keep a clear head, it will invariably get to some by its very nature.

I think Clone once described off topic back on BSN as something of a bar he'd visit, grab a drink, mingle and just generally chat about nonchalant, unimportant stuff. You wouldn't suddenly bust out a discussion on the migrants crisis. (Or hey, maybe some bar goers do. I don't judge). And I'm rather fond of that analogy, I'm on the forum for those reasons too. I wouldn't even be on this section myself but got directed here specifically for reasons outside of Grav's post.

It still caught my eye as just asking to be taken the wrong way though. And if it catches even me out, whose normally ignorable of anything controversial to the point that Impulse didn't even bother me most of the time during his brief stint whilst I started in the anime thread... well, I just don't want any bad blood between anyone else is all.
