Ummm, yeah. MEA is many things, but I mean, what? There are a few moments where certain things perhaps one could see as 'SJW' (ugh) influence, if one were silly enough. Some scenes discuss the significance of a character's sexual orientation on a mission that is essentially 'go to this far off place and make babies'. Seems like a fairly relevant thing to bring up imo. Otherwise people liking what they like is treated as the mundane character trait with no one in universe really giving a crap one way or another that its always been in ME. Noooothing has changed, except seemingly most squadies and romance options only bringing that stuff up when Ryder tries to slide into their pants. Way better writing.
Mind you, I'm never not gonna laugh at the one trans character I bumped into, 'cos damn is she written bad, but that just harkens back to what Sir Moe said. And you could oh-so easily never even meet her or miss that part of her character entirely if you weren't paying attention. And one minor character amongst hundreds.
For the record I'm far enough (exaltation) that I feel like I can cement an opinion on the game, and I'd say I'm enjoying it a bunch. Agree with the ME1 vibe and refinement mentioned by some already, which is perhaps... Not necessarily what I thought I wanted or expected a couple of years back? But I'm enjoying it all the same, and the marketing definitely tempered my own expectations, so I'm sure that's helped.
Animation jankness was either massively blown out of proportion through selecting a few meme worthy scenes, or my Sara custom managed to circumvent most of it (rather proud of her).
Squadies are hit and miss in quality, though I'm at least liking a couple a lot, and some of the crew more than make up for the few slackers. Doesn't seem unreasonable at all to say combat and the mechanics around it like skills and profiles are easily at the best the series has been. Many bugs, pointless level transitions, and tedious UI do hamper the experience a bit, but for me at least not to a degree that I'm not enjoying it. I appreciate the tone and vibe its going for and am just generally having fun. Once again, maybe all that isn't very Bioware, but I'm cool with it.
And MP, with the game's great combat and some greater company is a ton of fun. X)
