After ME3 and the lol "SO BE IT!!!!" EC trolling, they are going to have to answer "Why should I trust you again" before I even THINK about going back to the Mass Effect universe. Especially when their "genius" idea of avoiding that polychromatic garbage fire of an ending is to move the setting over a couple million light-years to another galaxy. ("Oh, look another Reaper/Prothean/Leviathan artifact!") So come on, Bioware, what's the elevator pitch that will pique my interest? I'm looking at Andromeda as a fresh start, these are my reasons: - It would be difficult to make a direct sequel to Mass Effect 3 with all the possible world states. Lets face it the three final decisions you make at the end of the game will have severe consequences on how the galaxy moves forward between having the Reapers under control of Shepard (essentially having a deity being able to guide all life forms), synthesis which alters the genetics of every species in the universe which would shake every species and there beliefs, culture, and faith to it's very core, and destroy which - though the least impactful - can still set technology back a few decades depending on what tech was and was not affected due to being Reaper technology. Plus on top of that which species would still be alive due to player choice as well that can have a major affect on what races to use for squad-mates and major characters (Even if a Krogan or Quarian can still be fitted into the story they would need to have several different complete scripted dialogues to fit into if there species is still alive or not as well as how they would interact and are perceived by others since being one of the last members of your species could really bring a person down personality wise, but again if the species was saved and are in a new renaissance that same character could be much more optimistic and fun). - Going to Andromeda can bring in a lot of fresh new ideas just from being in a new and unknown galaxy. It would be much easier to introduce new races, and new technology without having to worry about if it contradicts earlier canon. Plus it would give that sense of wonder and discovery that ME1 had when you first met the Krogans and Turians as well as learning about the war between the geth and Quariens which then gets fleshed out later on. - Third reason is an affect of the first two - it gives them time to flesh out the Milky Way Galaxy and set up a world state for when we return in a future game. We can all agree that the end of Mass Effect 3 - whether you liked it or did not like it - painted Bioware into a tight corner which will require work to resolve player choices without shafting fans. going to Andromeda (for who knows how many games) will give the writers a (and fans) to step back, breath a little, and then set up the Milky Way Galaxy so it can be presented in a more stable appearance for when the game returns. We do need to keep in mind that when we go back to the Milky Way it will be a new series within the Mass Effect universe and thus a new jumping in point for players so it needs to be worked on so it won't be confusing for the new people while giving enough information to long time fans of actions there previous characters have taken. They would also need to setup a system to import decisions from the previous games which could be 10 to 15 years old by the time we return (honestly it would just be something like Dragon Age Keep so I'm making it sound more difficult than it is.) I'm approaching the next game with optimism but I also do understand that they have a lot of work to do to satisfy those who feel jaded from a previous game. Plenty of good reasons mentioned! Sharing most of them aswell. On top of that I don't need Bioware to make me trust them. I don't and won't. However one can after all always wait until the game is released and judge it plus the reactions it causes and decide from there. So fresh start and a lot of caution from my side may just end up well.. nor not, c'est la vie
