I think I need to finish Pillars before Tyranny is out. To be frank, I kind of found Pillars to be boring. Character creation, the level system, the customization, the caste. All of that was great. The story and the companions, though. I just found them all to be dull. Baldur's Gate did that bit way better. The companions in it might not be as fleshed out as in Pillars, but they were way more memorable and fun to be around. I couldn't finish PoE. I got to Grieving Mother and then quit. I plan on going back, but I didn't much enjoy it. It was really hard to follow (especially some of the names) and the massive info dumps were horrific. Luckily, they seem to have learned from that. It isn't just you and I that found it lackluster either, a few other people I have talked to are in agreement about it as well. One of these days, I'll probably beat it, but it won't be anytime soon. I had pretty much the same issues with PoE, though I did finish it. While I actually do like the setting and wouldn't mind seeing it explored further in the future, the game did a very poor job of establishing the setting and all the concepts, the lore, the characters and the history that comes with it. I think I've maybe posted about this here or on the now defunct BSN Prime: the story they told in PoE would've worked ten times better if it had been like, maybe the third game in a series. That way the metric shit-ton of information about the setting, past events etc. that you're constantly bombarded by would've been mostly familiar already, instead of forcing me as the player to not only process all of this completely new information about the world while also learning all the game mechanics AND combining it with the plot they went with. I think the first game in the setting should've gone the "boring" route of telling a fairly traditional story and slowly easing the player into the world, then only after that or maybe even two games of that would you do the whole thing with Watchers, Awakened, Hollowborn, animancy, souls, reincarnation, the nature of the gods etc. It's clear that they put an absolutely absurd amount of thought into coming up with and creating the world, but they most definitely failed in the presentation of it.
