Ghostbusters as a movie worked because it wasn't just a comedy. It was funny, but it knew when to get dark or serious, and also knew when to turn up the scare factor to make it a Dark Comedy with Horror aspects. To analogy the crap out of it, despite how silly the Zuul Keymaster bit was with Bill Murey, the scene leading up to that funny back and forth was terrifying, as was the stuff following it. It relied on good timing and a abnormal response to the terrifying scene to make the joke work.
Now look at this film, and it's clear that the movie is going full-comedy route, with almost every scare being turned into a joke, and every moment that would require them to get dark or serious treated as a goof. It messed up the tone, just like Ghostbusters 2 did when it went too funny with its movie, only worse.
But even worse, is because of what they did to the tone, making it way too slap stick, gross out, and prop based humor instead of having funny and witty dialogue, none of the charm is going to be there. I honest to goodness gave this a chance, and kept from forming my opinion until a trailer came out, hoping we'd see some smart and fast jokes done and a couple of good scares.
Instead, we have puke jokes, a circus soleil rip-off with the ghosts, and absolutely 0 laughs from anyone who doesn't like Adam Sandler levels of humor.
