Looks like we're on better speaking terms with Putin, now... uhhh why? Now this coalition led by US is bombing IS for 13 months without much success... This is strange because we all can agree that US of A is a powerful country with a powerful army, fleet and air forces. US is a powerful enough to cut IS income. Because this "cheap oil" thing requires specialists, infrastructures, logistics and overall supply lines. And for some reason US of A can't annihilate IS? Really? US want something to gain. On the other hand Putin is bombing IS to ash, which means he actually want something to gain from Syrian theatre as well, and what that is unknown as well but clearly this something is different from what Obama's administration goal. Russia's stake in this conflict is the preservation of a Russia-friendly Syrian government so that they can maintain and operate their naval facilities in the Port City of Tartus. Tartus is capable of docking Aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines, and allows Russia to bypass Turkey's (NATO's) grip on the Bosphorous strait. This allows Russia to gain access to the Mediterranean, as well as parts of the Middle East and North Africa without intervention or blockade. This is also the US' primary interest in Syria. As if the United States give a shit about ISIS when they're buddies with Saudi Arabia, the place where most extremist Islamic sentiment is fermented and funded. I'm not trying to say that Russia dindu nuffin or anything. I'd rather live in America than Russia. But it's not a good vs evil proposition. It's two powerful factions manipulating events and ideology around the world for the purposes of becoming more powerful. ISIS and other extremist groups are merely weapons that they throw at one another. They're doubled edged, haphazard weapons, but weapons nonetheless.
