It would be a literal world ending event. The lava would cover a large portion of the United States, while the ash would rise into the atmosphere and block out sunlight causing animals to choke and plants to die from lack of sunlight.

Oh, that's good then! I had always read it was a doomsday scenario, I'm not really that bothered if it is just my continent (kind of funny, isn't it?). As long as more than just a little something survives, then good enough for me.

Is anyone really worried about this? The United States has the greatest, most powerful military the world has ever seen. We are not afraid of some stupid "super volcano." See how tough this Volcano is after we dispatch mechanized infantry with full air support as a show of force.

If it dares to erupt it's advancing lava will be met with disciplined accurate bursts of fire from infantry and air, all the while getting pounded by artillery while our attack helicopters duel with the smoke in mid air. It would not be pretty, but we would easily win. No one can face us in conventional warfare and win, certainly not on our own turf.
