Never mind the fact that all the stuff that makes modern life what it is was invented by Americans. You know, the personal computer, keyboards, mice, the internet was a CIA program, would not have been possible without the American taxpayer, refrigerators, etc. I assume everyone here likes videogames, yes? The lava would doubtfully even make it out of Yellowstone national park (thanks to Murica's military, yes, obviously). It's the ash that would blanket about half of the US to some extent.

If it is the Yellowstone supervolcano blows, you'd be looking at a potential extinction event. Not global and not really that hard on humans as far as predictions go, but the majority of the north american continent would be suffering from a severe volcanic winter (words like uninhabitable are tossed around, but most of that should be attributed to the difficulty to grow anything, making supporting any people trying to live there a logistical nightmare if not impossibility). The immediate effects from the explosion are speculated to reach up 90k human cusualties if it blew.

The problem is that whilst humans can be evacuated (though have fun evacuating the majority of the USA and Canada), the local fauna (nevermind flora ...) is going to suffer extensively, hence extinction event, at least for north america.
