I should have clarified this to apply to single player games.

I miss the days when devs put in a console mode to their games and had options you had to find and stuff like that which let you play a game the way you want and now how you are told to play.

Plus no one really makes the kind of game I would really like to play.

It's all depends on the reasoning.


-If you are using these methods to get an advantage over other players in a multi player game or to circumvent game mechanics in an MMO that again makes it unfair against people how play the game honestly then they are bad and can ruin the game for other players when it affects them.

-If it's a single player game then it's fine as the only experience that is being affected is your own.

It's fine. Nothing wrong with it at all, can even have some legitimate uses too. Games with a robust modding community often have mods that fix bugs and restore cut content. KotOR 2 comes to mind. Same could be said about certain cheats, bypassing or fixing issues caused by bugs.

The only time when it becomes questionable is when it affects other people in a way they they didn't ask for.

But in single player games, I'm all for it.

Machine gun for tanks in CnC?

Bruh, you just broke the balance. Besides, doing the Squishy is more fun anyway: "Right of way, suckers!"

Reminds me of R.U.S.E. ... tanks would SLAUGHTER infantry attacks due to having machinguns and HE shells and could simply reverse to keep long enough distance to kill insane numbers of infantry unless backed into untraversable terrain like forests or cities. Then again, a single cheap infantry unit could instant-route all but the heaviest tanks (unless they used satchel charges or the lolPIAT) and if attacking from concealed positions like a forest or within a city, would either OSK a tank instantly, or kill it with the second shot anyway, let alone elite infantry with Bazookas or even worse, the Panzerschreck which was just overkill against any armored vehicle from a concealed position.

Good game, shame it was abandoned by the devs even though it still had a couple graphic glitches and minor balance issues (but the balance is still one of the better ones I've seen in such games).


But I digress.

I for one had a habit in the X series to play around in the script editor, plus with a couple mods like the MARS turret script, Mosquite Missile Defense and shipmods, once you got a fully equipped M7 or higher, it felt like cheating anyway. Then again, two-fully kitted out M2s with MARS plugin in a Xenon core sector = amazing lightshow.

video game is supposed to set some sort of challenges before player which he/she should overcome. this brings satisfaction.

using trainers, hacking application is a bad thing. because these types of applications kill gameplay. and not only for a single player, but for all around him. like wallhack or autoaim.

modding is another category, bigger and broader.

As far as single player goes I see absolutely no problem with any of it.

The worst thing you're going to do is ruin the game for yourself, which it's your own fault if you do that.

I will always try and beat a single player game the right way, but if I get stuck or can't pass a part that causes me too much frustration I will bring out a trainer and get past that area.  I'll they play normally once past the area I got stuck.

When I finish a game I like to go back with cheats and then do the stuff I'm not supposed to do.

Like others have said games like GTA and such are fun with cheats once you have finished them for the carnage you can cause hehe.

Well, games used to have cheat codes for that sort of thing, didn't they? Unfortunately, those cheat codes have been removed now in favour of microtransactions (why offer something for free when you can charge for it, right?). Personally, I don't see the harm in using a trainer in SP. However, I would suggest not abusing of it either because, as others have said, it might make gameplay a tad boring.
