Then it went all fanfiction. The only point of the writing now is building up to shock moments. Hence why Shireen got burned, Sansa raped, Selmy killed, and more.

They rushed through book 4 in 4 episodes. The book is around 700 pages or something? It equals cramming the whole of LOTR into a 2.5 hour movie, round about. They ditched the Riverlands plotline and the Greyjoy plotline as well. That's a ton of episodes right there. By doing what they did, they actually made Balon Grejoy win the War of Five Kings, by not showing up at all. Fantastic work. The fanfic started before they ran out of books, really. With those screaming skeletons and the fireball throwing "elf"

The Greyjoy family is IMHO has one of the coolest stories in the lore (and I have yet to read the holy books) and the show barely touches on any of their history. It sucks

The Martin demands it! Honestly, I think he uses a RNG application to decide what happens, then just writes narrative around that.
