The point was that a good actor can still deliver a good performance, even if he isn't a fan of the project. You're not supposed to like every role you're offered as an actor. It's a job like any other job and you can't afford to be picky. I think Mark still cares enough about the character, the world, and the fans to not phone it in.
Not like Peter Dinklage in Destiny for instance, which felt like it was just another paycheck to him. Even if Alec Guinness didn't care for Star Wars he still delivered a phenomenal performance. I should also remind that Harrison Ford had a different view on where to take the Han Solo character in Return of the Jedi, which they ultimately followed up on with Force Awakens. Despite that it didn't hinder Harrison Ford's acting.
