Please excuse my scepticism about you being who you say you are. Regarding the rest: Criticism isn't bad. It isn't hostile in nature. And when people are being hostile, then community management has options to deal with those people. And if people misinterprete "don't be an ass about it" with "CENSERSHIP!" and continue being assholes, they get banned and good riddance. And if need be, you ban more people until the people with a brain in their skull can enjoy exchanging improvement ideas without some nutjobs raging around all day long. Creating a healthy environment also means taking out the trash. That's what wasn't happening. And lo and behold, if the trash isn't taken out, it rots and the whole place starts to stink. There's so many people on the official forums who love the games, who love the work and passion put into them. And they are equally passionate. There's always going to bad eggs or the kind of folk that can't moderate themselves and they can be tricky to deal with, but that's something that needs to be done if one intends to have a community with thousands of people. Translation please. You are fine being skeptical about who I am, if you want ill message you on the BSN, to 'prove' myself. You are now changing the topic of what you posted. Your initial post was more of an attack on the choices I (as an individual make). Here is the thing about forum moderation when it is being done by a company that is also the one who is putting out a product. No one trusts the corporation, and those that do post "positively" are called drones and pushed out. Do you ban those people who are being hostile towards people? If that is the case then your initial post could seen as hostile towards those that like reddit. You know what else regardless of how people are banned they are going to raise such a stink about things that people are going to call it censorship. I dont know if you follow League of Legends at all, but the amount of times people have come and complained that they were banned unfairly and then raise a large amount of backing from the community of "WTF Riot". Then someone at Riots posts proof of their behavior, and people say "owned" and that is the end of it. Then a week later the cycle repeats. Also to address your initial point, not every employee agrees with every decision that is made within a company. If you do know of one, where there is more than 1 person working there, please let me know I am interested. There has been a few times where I have said, I can not answer a question because I either a) Cant because it would go against an NDA or I simply don't have the information to answer it. Then get personally called out for being a corporate whore. Yup that is where I want to spend my free time. For whatever worth it may be to you: I don't care if you're the genuine Johnson or not. I don't need a BioWare tag to discuss things and I wouldn't be any different. To me, what matters most is the discussion. You can PM me on BSN (same user name) if you want to, but other than me being able to confirm your person, nothing would change. Was my initial post you quoted first hostile? Yes. I own up to that. And it is wrong. Why was it hostile? Because I'm angry. Why am I angry? Because a place I like is getting nuked and I have no understandable information as to why. I lack context. Hence I make misinterpretations. I have no qualms about admitting that I am lashing out. And if this were the BSN, I would have no reservations against you or someone else taking action against my account if it was deemed necessary. As for the forum moderation: I may not not trust everything someon official says. To a reasonable degree, that is obviously the correct thing to do. But scepticism is one thing and being an ass is another. And yes, I would absolutely root for BioWare to just crack down on disruptive users and clearly say: "it's okay to not trust everything we say, it's okay to criticize, please do, feedback helps. BUT do so in a reasonable fashion. If you don't like something, tell us WHY and don't say OMGTHISISTHEWORSTSHITEVER". If people disagree. Fine! Let them. If people disagree and throw a tantrum, they get actioned. That may not be a straight up ban, but the message has to get across - if one can't abide by the rules of standard civil behaviour, you're not wanted. Part of the reason why people are quick to antagonize is because it works. If the community team stays strong and keeps the peace, by steady application of the banhammer if need be, then someday the idea will come across. Having an enforced set of rules isn't being an authoritatian policy state. It is absolutely necessary. And if some vocal people get uppity about it, let them. What's important isn't the people who hate you. Focusing on those is self-destructive. What's important is the people that love you. And there's plenty around. Now, the recent events have showed one thing. Community management from BioWare is lacklustre at best. Moderation has been lenient for years and quite frankly I believe that is simply because there weren#t enough mods around to do the job. That can be a financial issue, or likewise a trust issue. Community mods are always an option. No one in their right mind can fault any individual over at BioWare of abiding by the rules. NDAs are a thing and not wanting to speculate when you don't have sufficient information on a specific thing is commendable even if it upsets some people who just wanted something to talk about. It happens. People get over it. And if anyone calls someone for that a corporate whore, they're an asshole and deserve being actioned. And if they don't get the hint and continue being assholes, like I said, good riddance. Splat 'em with the banhammer and be done.
