For all we know, the signs have been pointing to "loldontcare" and "buyourgamesorfuckoff" for a couple years now.
BioWare seems about as motivated to cultivate a prospering community as ... nothing. They don't want to cultivate a community. What they want is an audience they can feed with whatever it is they want, without requiring any interaction. It's why they have such a hard-on for Twitter, etc.!

I wouldn't be surprised if it was that they just don't want the BSN anymore, as has been suggested in the thread on the BSN itself. Ever since I joined just before the launch of Mass Effect 3 they didn't seem to have a ton of love for it. I've noticed companies in general seem to want to shift towards Twitter and Facebook more these days rather than having proper community interaction.

I'm surprised with how quickly this forum has expanded, it's only been active for like what? 48 hours? The fact that forum now has almost 100 members with 1,800 posts in 70 threads is remarkable.

They've just been so consistently bad at community shit for years.

I mean criticism sucks sure but most people don't go full President of Madagascar on everything.

And this is the real difference between the supposed haters on the game boards and I suspect, some people in Off Topic. Those who are still in the gameboards have ranted and raved but are still lining up for more (speaking for the ME crowd at least), with some even being fully converted.

I don't know the Off Topic crowd that well but I do know some that have criticized several aspects of the games and then actually left. Some just didn't "leave" leave. I think it's those people Bioware has no more use for. The people who rail in the game forums (and I'm still one of them part time) have a chance to still give them money. People who've actually sworn off but still hung around Off Topic probably do not.
