BioWare finds themselves in the position of having a relatively large and very connected fanbase, tumblr, twitter, BSN, reddit, and so on. What they do not have is extensive experience with dealing with such a community and an utter lack of qualified (or even competent) community managers, relations, and other positions.
Even their moderation was largely done by people who were not actual moderators such as Allan Schumacher and they've made no efforts to engage the community on BSN. To be fair, its not like much of it is worth engaging with. The story discussion forums are rightfully left almost entirely alone, companions and romances attract a strange crowd to be polite, and the MP sections can also be quite a handful.
But at this point they've enacted a self-fulfilling prophecy, our community is toxic so we don't engage, causing them to be even less sympathetic to us, so we don't engage.
