For one I do recognize the bureaucratic nightmare for handling such stuff.
However, as far as customary respect for other cultures and their legislative goes, if they apply for asylum in european nations, whose legislative in black on white says (example for dutch law) the minimum legal age for marriage is 18, marriage younger than that requiring permission from the Minister of Justice with the earliest legal age being 16 and ONLY if the girl is pregnant AND all parents consent ... then you DON'T get to have that marriage recognized. Period!

Accepting such a thing is not respecting another culture, it's breaking your own laws and officials doing that should be brought to court with charges on harmful negligence against minors at the absolut least!


Now, it's also important that whilst child marriages are morally wrong given your standard european cultural understanding, it doesn't automatically mean those are abusive relationships even by our standards. But that out in the open to consider, marriages can't and shouldn't be recognized. Underage girls should be seperated from those partners, checked and surveilled by medical and psychological experts for signs of abuse, physical and mental. And once they are of legal age they might marry under their nation's law only if aforementioned experts have attested them to be fully capable of making their own decision to help avoid the classic beaten wife returns to abusive husband dilemma.



Guh, this whole crisis is just one giant mess that everyone suffers from. The system obviously doesn't work, scrap it and create legislature that can handle it, retroactively applicable so there won't be any loophole abuse for the interim period. And for everyone's sake, will the EU nations PLEASE coordinate so people aren't shuffled around in inhumane conditions and stuck in a legal limbo. This isn't Hollywood, refugees stuck on airports don't get to marry the hot flight attendee and get a happy ending, they get sick and die when malnourished and forced to sleep in the on cold autumn nights without sufficient protcetion from the elements.

So Europe better hop down that high horse of human rights, ethical treatment and such and start practicing what they preach!
