Well, Burch is part of the writing team on Telltale's thing too.. In retrospect, that reminds me of the latest Cowboy Bebop reference. What I don't like about the recurring patterns of Burch's writing is the consistent emphasizing on internet memes as a surrogate for actual wit. The Bebop reference was excellent, if not for the fact that an NPC had to freaking point it out a few seconds later (Oh, what does it read? IS THAT SOME SORT OF ANIMURH THING?!). That is something I'd expect out of juvenile stuff like Duke Nukem. References are subtle, and similarities and homáges needs to make sense in the context of which they are used and not just slammed unto it like some sort of commercial sticker.. like say the 'Cake is a lie' joke in Lords of Shadow. Other than that -- The characterization he's granted Jack and done for a lot of the characters are actually quite good. Put a leash on him and he's okay. Space Cowboy? Do we honestly need a hint?
