Recently finished reading Batman: Hush graphic novel, and I must say, it is worth the praise.
The novel is an excellent blend of different aspects, wherein it utilizes various themes, characters, events, locations and so forth, to really make the overall narrative story come alive. It portrays Batman very acutely as a complex character, taking into account his history growing up and the people he has grown to know throughout the years (both allies and enemies), while simultaneously showing really how much of a great detective he is. Seeing how he unravels the mystery behind the character Hush, and how he demonstrates a keen understanding of his friends and his enemies, while showing how they have evolved in his mind, was entertaining to see, since it gave me a nice view of Batman's thought process and how they related to each individual character. The overall mystery does a nice job in taking these characters and invoking some sort of scheme that has you guessing on what behind the mask's motives. Though my main complaint of the story would be the ending, since it kinda clunks to an end abruptly. The build up was great, but the conclusion left a sour taste in my mouth, mainly because it didn't feel much like an ending, but a beginning to something further (since the story added another enemy to Batman's rooster, which really in my opinion could have gone without).
Batman is the sole focus here, and the story does feature a large rooster of side characters, but none feel like they are really there just for the sake of it, and most (if not everyone) fill some sort of role in the larger scheme of things, which really surprised me how well the novel incorporated these elements.
The art is spectacular, so no complains on that front.
So yeah, anyone looking for a great Batman story, pick up Hush.
