Funny stuff at CA-Dems convention... Biden did not show. He seems to be employing the Warren Harding strategy of not campaigning, because every time he opens his mouth, he gives people more reasons to vote for literally anyone else. If you haven't seen the headlines over the last few weeks, they were BAD. Meanwhile, John Hickenlooper (one of the few people with an argument for being worse Joe) thought it'd be a great idea to condemn socialism to this crowd. He got deservedly booed, lol. I would have booed that even when I wasn't a full-blown radical lefty. You don't have to be a radical to recognize that lots of socialism offers lots of good policy alternatives to capitalist ones that we can adopt without overthrowing the whole system or coming anywhere close. It's 2019. If you still slam socialism, you shouldn't be allowed to walk the streets unsupervised, much less run for President. Oof, I'm more of a social liberal than a socdem or a demsoc myself, but I'd want to boo too. By suggesting that the Democrats have a "socialist problem," he's just carrying water for the Republicans. Are the powers that be going to add "Socialism is the government doing stuff, and the more it does the more socialist it is" to the party platform next? Do they want to goad the Democratic base into booing in front of the cameras for the high disinformation voters who think that Obamacare=Socialism=National Socialism to clutch their pearls at?
I used to be generally be okay with punching left when only people and ideas I thought were stupid getting punched. Now I think that most intraparty squabbling just helps the right paint a picture of the Democratic Party getting taken over by "far left radicals." It would probably be for the best if the Democrats could just find their common center of gravity behind closed doors and present a united front, but that's not going to happen because the party is run by fools who feel like Hickenlooper does, and want to let Fox News set the Overton window.
