It's interesting to see the Death Star II's wreckage at the end of the trailer. One of the first scripts for The Force Awakens had Rey (named Kira in the script) swim inside the wreckage of the Death Star II, particularly the throne room. I'm guessing we are going to see the throne room and that Palpatine's laughter in the trailer is going to tie back into his laughter from Luke and Vader dueling in the throne room in Jedi, perhaps Kylo and Rey are going to settle their differences with a final duel in the throne room on the Death Star II?

If they have brought Palpatine back to life, they just managed to mage episode 1-6 completely pointless.

The Dark Jedi trilogy got ignored by the rest of the EU because it was bad. Plus it wasn't canon. This will be canon.

I don't think he's alive. I think we're going to find out that he was responsible for Rey's creation and that her parents were literally nobody, because she didn't have any. The books stated that he had labs and such on Jakku. I think we'll get Snoke retconned into being Plagueis and we'll find out at the end of 9 that Plagueis created Anakin and Palpatine was trying to one-up Plagueis by creating Rey (both might have tried to create the ultimate force user for the purpose of having the greatest Sith successor of all time). It would make her OPness way more bearable to me if this is the case. But I think that Palpatine's laughter is going to be the only appearance we get of him in 9. I think Rey and Kylo are going to have their final duel in the wreckage of the Death Star II and while that is happening Palpatine's laughter will echo, just like it did when Vader and Luke dueled there. Rey will disarm Kylo, but start to give into anger and strike him down only for Anakin's force ghost to intervene and prevent her fall to the dark side while redeeming Ben at the same time. As with the dark side cave on Dagobah, when Palpatine died on the Death Star II it would have created a nexus of dark side energy which will be how this could happen.
