Yeah I have spent a few days mulling over popping in and saying this has been happening since before the majority of us were even born. Did a lot of reading about banned books over the years and it usually falls into the same categories: Racial slurs, language, sexual content. glorified drug use (sometimes not even glorified) etc etc. Very often in the south as well so again, thus isn't anything new. To Kill a Mockingbird is a favorite of mine as well, one of my all time favorites but banning things has never really stopped the thing in question's consumption before. Sure I'm bothered at the idea that it wouldn't be required reading there but honestly, the amusing part is often banning something leads to a bigger interest in it. Call it forbidden fruit or what have you but I don't think it's going to stop people from reading it. PS: It's fucking exhausting that SJW is thrown around wildly these days. I mean the country has very often liked to try and push points in cultural history under the rug for a long time. Old Shame is often what that's called and it didn't just pop up out of nowhere in the 00s. Huck has been under that sort of eye for a looooooooong time, to the point where I'm amused people could be surprised by it. Product of their time stories are kind of the prime example for both the good and the bad. It's a snapshot of what was okay back then and perspective is really what decides how you feel about it, reading it now.
