A few games are selling poorly these days, I have noticed. Dishonored 2 is selling less than anticipated, despite gamers liking the game. Not sure what is going on. Multiple reasons I think: - The data we have on games selling poorly is mostly retail sales for the UK. We don't know whether digital sales have increased or by how much.
- Having few to no reviews in the weeks leading to a game's launch might make people hesitant to pre-order or buy on the first week.
- November was a specially crowded month so it shouldn't come as a surprise that these games didn't sell as well as expected (Titanfall 2, Infinite Warfare, Watch Dogs 2, Dishonored 2).
- In some cases, like Watch Dogs, a lot of hype was built up initially for a game that was a huge letdown so I would expect people are naturally cautious about buying any sequels.
- These games tend to have lots of problems at launch on PC what could (and should) persuade buyers to wait a few weeks (or months) until most bugs have been ironed out. (I'm looking at you, Dishonored 2!)
- It could also (hopefully) be indicative of gamers having learned to wait and see rather than pre-order or buy at launch.
