It's a slippery slope. First, it's smart guns, and then it's smart bullets!

They don't necessarily care if people have smart guns. They're worried that it would be used to regulate guns more though. They don't want anything that could potentially mandate smart gun tech for a couple reasons. First off many people like the old fashioned guns and the prospect of those become illegal bothers them (no surprise). Second it could potentially give others remote access to their guns I guess (I assume the ability to turn it off and such) and also it would likely raise the manufacturing and purchase cost of guns.

Another thing I saw mentioned after 5 minutes of Google searching was there's a failure rate. The actually numbers given as to what that is seems to range between under 1% to 40% (40% being what the NRA claimed after "secretly" testing one of the models).

They're reasoning is somewhat understandable in the sense that they're not necessarily wrong about those potential restrictions being a possibility. It should come as no surprise the NRA is going to be iffy about anything that could potentially be used to regulate guns more, and as we all know some Americans *really* love their guns and practically consider the right to own one a sacred commandment handed down by God himself. To us it seems like a simple straight forward safety feature, to them it's unconstitutional and trampling on a basic right that their country was founded on.

Agreed. Although from the several articles I read the more regulations bit seems to be the core concern brought up.

I'm not entirely sure how accurate the NRA is with the 40% failure rate statistic. Seeing as how I'm not a gun owner nor particularly interested in them I haven't done much proper research as to actual statistics although I am a bit weary of the obvious bias they have. That being said from what I understand that 40% figure was just on one model alone.

I will say this though, I don't use the finger scanner lock on my phone (Samsung Galaxy 6 which  is only about a year old) because it doesn't seem to work half the time so there could be some validity to that particular issue.
