The ending felt very formulaic, probably more than I would have liked. Brian Westhouse being the big bad is something I saw coming from a mile away, his questionable knowledge of all the important details and his general presence in both Dreamfall and Chapters felt suspicious, probably even more so in the first chapter of which he appears in Chapters. Crow's death irritated me a bit. It was shocking and sudden, so I guess it worked more along the lines of April's demise... just felt rather cheap too. Like something that was winged out of left field for shock value sake alone.
April's story was the part I disliked the most. Oh she freed you, she says? I don't know, I remember it more along the lines of you being skewered by a Saturday morning cartoon villain, and that's it. With regards to all the groundwork that was laid out, and the Scandinavian folklore spiritually that fuels this game's narrative ala Astrid Lindgren--It always seemed like Saga was meant to be her reincarnation... but no. What about the teensy prophecy: April will save the Balance, only to destroy it later? What happened to the second part? Did i miss something very obvious here? She was always the better protagonist and the better character than Zoe to me but didn't get her Cinderella ending.. blergh
Saga was a great character though. I wish they'd introduced her in earlier chapters to give her more build up, she had a lot but enough and it felt rather delayed and rushed at the end. Although we experience her 'growth' we don't really get to know who she is.. like really. It would have been preferable to have her story be expanded upon from the very start instead of halfway through the game, more so than her simply being like Morgan Freeman stepping forward to explain everything that is going on at the end of almost any film he is in.
I think the saddest part is that Ragnar won't get to make that Longest Journey game called 'Home' starring April after all... which would have elaborated on her role after the first game some more... It made her ending even more irritating. At least it had a conclusion this time.. more or less like Futurama.. It's an ending, not sure it was the appropriate ending needed, it lacked something, a certain Je ne sais quoi but an ending nonetheless.
