The problem with any form of politics and bureaucracy is that in order to do a good job with it, you have to play the game that everyone not yet involved in dislikes so much. If you don't do it, you'll get blocked by power doing their power games (yes, even at the lower end of the spectrum), or can watch your work slowly getting alienated as it proceeds along the bureaucratic junctions before it finally arrives ... only a minor part being the original you drafted (some born from necessity, some from others tailoring it to their own agendas). There is no easy way to make good/clean/honest politics or some such. It's either politics, or it isn't. Well if you think about it, the bar is so low because of systemic elements, like, does anyone really expect a Pokemon fan to get 51% of the electoral vote? That it's kind of liberating... any votes you get running for just about anything is kind of a sign of progress and such. Plus there are so many random offices, state positions, etc, it's not all about the Federal Gov it could be super minor positions minor things, etc.
