I don't know about politicians. But without law I would like to steal your cars and GFs, knowing that nothing can touch me! *is bitten by the Snake Karma*

Politics aren't bad and not all politicies are bastards, though a natural affinity for exploitation is necessary, if not only to make sure any deals brokered or laws written aren't easy to exploit in unintended ways. But as the saying goes, power corrupts, this is why politicians are only appointed for limited time periods.

The system isn't perfect, it's far from it, but it works. And considering what I see around me each day, I'd rather take a bunch of manipulative people looking out for their best interest that by definition of their practice also coincide with mine, over a bunch of ignorant fools who couldn't tell you the difference between politics, policies and policing.

This basic form of discriminative oligarchy arguably reflects the natural going of how societies work and as such is the best form of governance. It reflects on its people and if you dislike what you're seeing, you need to change the masses first to influence the individuals. What goes and works after all is the same no matter where you look at. In its own sense, politicians might actually be the least decieving profession there is, they just lay society's conduct bare to see in their pragmatism.

I'm torn on this point just because there are certain rules that should not be allowed simply based on what the majority wants. 

Gun control isn't one of the things I'd worry about in that sense though, but still worth noting that there are certain things that deserve looking at even if most people don't feel so. A lot of the things I could think of have to do with the values the country was founded on.

The other thing is I'm curious whether the people who wouldn't support gun control is actually so low. It could be a case of the vocal minority but if I so much as mention "gun control" in America online in most places I'll see tons of people lose their shit and practically start foaming at the mouth.

To be fair, the vast majority of the public has little, to no, to downright false opinions on how things do or should work and whilst I personally don't think gun control is one of those issues, hardly any standard citizen in ANY nation on this world knows how to run a country (economics, legislation, organization) and hence should rightly be led on with a safe distance between them and any important decisions.

Most people are ignorant of the details and/or necessities and some of those ignorant people are stupid on top of it. I don't think everyone would appreciate it if a random bob whose idea of governance is to read the bible, the stars, his navel or toss a dice were to suddenly have as much pull as say a person who studied and mastered say economics, jura or some such.

It's when you call it 'gun control' that Americans freak out. Then you ask those same Americans if they want to ban high capacity magazines and assault weapons and to have universal background checks and they say fuck yeah.

That's what stupid people and stupid amounts of money corrupting the system relentlessly pushing pro-gun framing will give you.

And seeing as they want to base that control on a list that is arbitrary and largely prejudiced in nature, and would not have even prevented the incident that roused them into the action they're taking, we should apparently be grateful. #sheeple #baaa

The GOP is right for once, albeit for the wrong reasons. They are largely just trying to please the NRA here. The No Fly List was bipartisan legislation they have no interest in reworking.

Didn't an NRA guy once say that what we need is more good guys with guns around so that they could shoot bad guys with guns when trouble happens?

That's interesting logic, and how would that work?

Who gets to determine who the good and bad guys are?

But isn't that what politicians are?
