Trump loves the uneducated for a reason, though the point I'm trying to make is that you have another case of a Muslim doing a shooting, and it's going to garner more support for this idea there needs to be tougher sanctions on Muslims in America. Would his policies help cut down on attacks? Sure, it probably would to some degree. That doesn't mean it's a good idea to allow him to enact those restrictions and it sure as hell isn't constitutional in the US and I think it would hurt far more then it would protect in the long run. Your point that it will stir knee jerk xenophobia is obviously true, but I don't grant that his "policies" (which is really just him banning Muslims. he's not very sophisticated) would cut down on any attacks, considering that the Muslim terrorist shooters here (and for that matter, in Europe as well) almost always seem to be home grown. This is a globalized world, and you unfortunately can't ban the spread of a thought virus unless you're China. So really, when people say radical Islam is a problem, and I can't say that it is not, what is the actual solution? Not Trump's clearly. So then what? Increased surveillance? Internment camps? I wouldn't be surprised if he proposes it. Personally I'd rather ban all guns until our representatives can figure out what the hell is going on. I do think his policies would cut down on attacks, not completely, maybe not even significantly but yes you could argue that point. But I'm not going to argue Trumps point because frankly it's not ones I agree with anyways even if for slightly different reasons then you. As for the solution? Fuck if I know. Sorry but I have opinions which I can state if you wanted on the matter but I certainly couldn't say anything substantially backed up by statistics and proof that this would fix anything because there's a number of factors that go into shootings beyond just the one or two things that typically get blamed in the media. I do think some degree of heavier gun control is a good step. From what I read this guy had just purchased the gun he used to kill people legally so that kind of is fucked up. Outright banning guns would be hilarious to see though I don't think that's going to fly in the US. My issue with the politics being latched onto this stuff is it's always the same things and the same groups are always pushing the same agendas regardless of what happens. Yes I think there needs to be more gun control, and yes radical Islam is an issue, and again there are many other factors that enter into play here such as the shooters mental health and more. I just don't like how some politicians jump onto these things just for their own benefit, maybe some of them do genuinely care about what happened but more often then not I'm left feeling like these kind of things are used as an excuse to push what people already believed. Regardless it's a tragedy and these kind of things shouldn't happen in the world. No one should have to go out on the weekend to have a bit of fun and get shot for it.
