So many threads popping up that I want to make lists for, but I know putting in the time and thinking about it could become a looooong thing. X3 FTR, Blood is still one of my favorite FPSes ever. The Build engine games in general were all really solid, but Blood stands out cause of course if you know me, you know gothic horror is a very quick way to get to my heart. As for my own list... Hrm. I might do some tweaking on it as more things come to mind but I'll throw out a few for now: -The Last Express (One of my favorite adventure games everrrr. WWI era stuff has a special place in my heart, and there's really not enough of it around in general) -Clive Barker's Undying (huge Clive Barker fan in general and Undying does a lot of things so so right for me. The scry ability is wonderful and can create such sudden "Holy shit..." moments when used in the right location. Not to mention, the sound design is great.) -Pathologic (I love this one so goddamn much. There's a book I could write here about how the original localization, back before Ice Pick Lodge became kind of a cult favorite darling and got the money, was hampered in a mess of too many chefs spoiling the soup because of the three playable scenarios, they all were translated by different teams and thus, they range from not really all that bad to very unintelligible, which is a shame because it's another gothic horror title, amazing atmosphere and fantastic music. Luckily, after 10 years, Ice Pick did a Kickstarter and we're not only getting a remake, but they also did a retranslation of the original game, so I'm incredibly happy there.) -Realms of the Haunting- Part adventure game, part FPS, full on cosmic horror. Love it to pieces. There's probably a ton more I can add, but coffee is still trying to find its way into my blood stream, so I'll leave it there for now.
