How about a mock-draft??
I used to follow the draft religiously. Not so much anymore, it's just such a crapshoot, but I do get draft-fever in the final days leading up to it.
Let's take a stab at it! *No trades, just team selections.
(1) Los Angeles Rams: QB Jared Goff By all accounts, Rams will take Goff. (2) Philadelphia Eagles: QB Carson Wentz They will take whoever LA passes up; fortunately, it sounds like they will get their preferred selection. (3) San Diego Chargers: OT Ronnie Stanley This selection is totally up-in-the-air. Last-minute rumors are pointing to Stanley. I guess I'll bite. *shrug* Some do think he is the best OT in the draft. (4) Dallas Cowboys: DB Jalen Ramsey Perhaps the best overall player in the draft, and reportedly at the top of the Cowboys' board. That said, RB E. Elliot here would not shock me. (5) Jacksonville Jaguars: DE Joey Bosa JAX will likely take the best defender available. Good chance it's Bosa, who would pair up very nicely opposite Dante Fowler. (6) Baltimore Ravens: OT Laremy Tunsil Can't imagine Tunsil falls any further; surrendered just 2 sacks his whole college career against the best competition. (7) San Francisco 49ers: DL DeForest Buckner I think Chip Kelly would have most liked Stanley. No matter, Buckner has the talent to be chosen as high as #3 overall. (8) Cleveland Browns: RB Ezekiel Elliot Cleveland could make this pick; hometown hero who will have an immediate impact for a low-scoring team. OR, Elliot could be the target of a trade at this slot. In any case, this is his floor IMO. (9) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: EDGE Leonard Floyd Tampa could go several ways here (CB, OT) but there is premium value on pass-rushers. Besides, this is a deep OL and DB class ("value in two"). (10) New York Giants: MLB Myles Jack Biggest wild-card of the draft. Jack has top-5 talent, but lots of teams hit him with the med-red. IMO, his immediate impact justifies what may be a shorter career. (11) Chicago Bears: OLB Shaq Lawson Transitioning to the 3-4 scheme, Lawson would really complete their linebacker corps. Again, pass-rushers have premium value. (12) New Orleans Saints: DT Sheldon Rankins Saints could take the top T available, or look to add more talent anywhere on D. Their interior DL is particularly weak, and Rankins is arguably the best DT in the draft. (13) Miami Dolphins: CB Vernon Hargreaves Local talent stays in-state to help struggling defense. (14) Oakland Raiders: OT Jack Conklin Not many folks mocking this, but LT Donald Penn is aging and the OL could generally be improved. Conklin can play four OL spots and excel. (15) Tennessee Titans: OT Taylor Decker Bummer for the Titans that Conklin would go right under their nose. I could see them reach a bit for OL help. (16) Detroit Lions: DT Robert Nkemdiche Bad character fits right in with this city! In all seriousness, the character issues surrounding Nkemdiche are by themselves relatively minor. Ngata is old and the Lions could use an anchor on D. (17) Atlanta Falcons: LB Darron Lee Lee could go earlier than this, and would pair up nicely next to talented young pass-rusher Vic Beasley. (18) Indianapolis Colts: C Ryan Kelly Kelly has really picked up some steam lately, and would help solidify Indy's weak OL. (19) Buffalo Bills: ILB Reggie Ragland A medical concern (enlarged aorta) may drop him. Nonetheless, Ragland has the IQ and the nastiness Rex Ryan looks for in his D, ala David Harris (if not, please fall to 27)! (20) New York Jets: DE Kevin Dodd Dodd has quite a bit of upside, and the Jets could use more of a pass-rush. I'm a lot less confident with my mock at this point, though. We are now firmly in crapshoot territory. (21) Washington ******: DT Andrew Billings Young kid with lots of upside, could really be enticing for a Washington team that struggled to stop the run. (22) Houston Texans: TE Hunter Henry Not a lot of talk about Henry lately, but that's not always bad in the draft. Lots of people mock speed-WR here, but a TE can split the seam just as well. They're weaker at TE. (23) Minnesota Vikings: WR Laquon Treadwell. I hate to say it, as a rival fan, but the Vikes have been killin' it in the draft for some time now. This would be another good pick by them. (24) Cincinnati Bengals: DT Jarran Reed Nobody can run on this guy. This pick helps strengthen the Cincy D damn near playoff form. (25) Pittsburgh Steelers: S Karl Joseph Lot of love for Joseph lately, standout S who can match up 1-on-1 against most receivers. Pitt could really use his presence on the back end. (26) Seattle Seahawks: OL LeRaven Clark John Schneider was with the Packers for a while and is kind of a diehard numbers-guy. Clark is a remarkable specimen who could help at multiple OL spots. (27) Green Bay Packers: DT Vernon Butler Butler just has the feel of a Packers-type prospect. That said, he could go earlier, and this is looks like a hot-spot for a team looking to trade up for QB (Lynch, Cook, et el). (28) Kansas City Chiefs: WR Josh Doctson Yes, yes, the meme is Alex Smith does not throw to WRs, but who does he have opposite Maclin? Here is a big target for him and nice complement to their current go-to-guy. (29) Arizona Cardinals: QB Paxton Lynch Assuming no trades, well, why not?? Cardinals had a SuperBowl-caliber team before Carson Palmer went and tanked. He's old anyway. I'd love to see what Arians can do with him. (30) Carolina Panthers: CB Eli Apple I have to think the Panthers let Norman go so close to the draft because they liked how the board would fall for them here at CB. Apple's stock (lol) has cooled some, but the Panthers always seem to scoop up draft-day sliders. (31) Denver Broncos: OL Jason Spriggs Spriggs has great athleticism but could use more functional-strength. An NFL S&C program could make him a real quality player.
