Excluding internet stuff, nada - Hateful 8 shows up around later march for Blu-Ray, but until then I'm knocking out the gaming backlog like nobody's business... I did some long-form nonsense on the latest movies bout a week ago: Straight Outta Compton. Similar to previous Rags-To-Bitches stories like Notorious or 8-Mile, but has a far more diverse character roster. The drama's fueled by the fragile alliances between managers, themselves, and fighting off the myriad forces clashing against them. Strongest Cinematography out of the ones I watched, and the soundtrack is great at spewing out blistering lyrics as a symptom of the story. These guys will fuck your shit up with a shitload of fuck, and I wouldn't have it any other way. The Good Dinosaur. The question of course is, is The Good Dinosaur good? I'll start with the good. Even by pixar standards, the environmental detail is pretty astounding and Pixar makes the most of it. The main cast(outside of humans) look strangely cartoonish compared to its realistic backdrop. A lot of the side characters seem to blend in better and seem to get the more unique designs. For the most part, the story is meh. A twist early on feels hackneyed, even by Disney standards - it's literally ripped out from a piece of their previous work to less effect. Oddly, a more abstract version of this done works with a profoundly greater result. Not due to the abstraction, but to the reaction itself. It's a movie that's better watched for the character interactions, humor, and the journey than any semblance of a destination. It's ok. Good Job. The Intern was neat. Robert DeNiro plays an old-school-ish retired man wanting to explore new territory, and ends up wrapping himself into a world with an enormous generational gap. The story's a reminder that both the old and new can learn quite a bit from each other. The performances(besides DeNiro) feel a little too Hollywood-ish for my tastes, and the narrative kinda loses its punch around the 45-minute mark. To be fair, the expected scenes still get some good laughs. Not bad. o.O If you're counting YouTube stuff, I may be able to write up something recent. ¯\(°_o)/¯
