Only 5 hours in but I'm having a blast with this game! It is pretty much everything I wanted from a sequel--similar in style but with enough changes and new aspects to keep things fresh. Well it is still too early to properly judge it, but the game is definitely up for a good start on my part. Here are a few of my squad and a little of their background. Haven't customized them a lot yet, since I tend to keep my rookies rather bland in armor until they've proven themselves on the field (even though a few are veterans from EU, haha!) Jack Harper, your very model of an American Action Hero, who displays all your typical character traits that his stereotype embodies. A veteran of the first Alien Invasion, he saw the most battles and action during the conflict, and who is one of few I managed to keep alive throughout the whole game in EU/EW. Esteban Rodriguez, or more commonly referred to as "Ghost", is also a veteran of the Xcom project and who saw many battles together with Harper--who gained reputation for being able to survive alone under heavy combat (still surprised how he managed to avoid certain death during several confrontations. Guy is lucky as fuck). Much of his background is unknown, and he generally keeps his face hidden from plain sight. Few know whether there hides an ugly or a beautiful man under that concealment. While intimidating in appearance, he carries a rather playful attitude, to much of the surprise of fellow soldiers. Whether if its all a facade to hide his true self and his rumored harsh upbringing, or simply his nature, no one knows. Andrey Lefevre, a descendant of Pierre Lefevere, who was known as the Tapissier to King Henry IV of France for a time. Unfortunately such bragging rights doesn't go that far, especially when living under the Alien regime (not that it helped him before the invasion either). Raised as a nobleman, he is highly educated and intelligent, but much to the dismay of his family, Andrey never fit in to such a lifestyle, and sought the company of the cities "lower life", finding that he could put his name and skills to better use in such living conditions, as harsh as they were (though ask him, he'd remark it as "thrilling"). Spent time in prison more than once, even longer periods during the years of Alien occupancy, but apparently staged a coup and rescued many prisoners during an incident 5 years ago. With a sharp mind and a trained body, he is a force to be reckoned with in the battlefield, if only he could keep his ego controlled. Dolly Hill, a Scottish gal with a shrewd mind and a foul mouth. An expert technician, she knows her way with machinery and makes an effort of letting every know it, constantly reminding everybody of her talents, usually with a lot of curses involved. She is looking for father, Jasper Hill, a veteran of the invasion 20 years agom who was her mentor and taught her everything, before leaving abruptly without a word. Whether in hiding, an important mission or dead, Dolly is adamant on finding him, more so than saving the planet, which bothers many soldiers around her. Malachi Segel, is a small legend of sorts with the Resistance, and a public enemy of the Advent. He was a mere teenager during the invasion, but he saw his fair share of horror and destruction during that time, which hardened him into a hardened soldier, with a deep resentment towards aliens. He has carried a lot of small skirmishes against the Advent throughout the years, but the long battle has turned him into a very cynical man, and has lost a lot of his faith in people and the world. However, with the "revival" of the legendary Commander that led the assault during the Invasion, he has started to see some hope on the horizons, and wants to be able to do everything in his power to be able to walk in the sun again. Ronan Aubrey, a military General and war hero of the previous Xcom project, he was one of the very first soldiers who saw Alien contact in person. Experienced, skillful and committed, he is the kind of ally you want on your team and the kind of leader you can follow. While displaying a rather vicious and brutish style during combat, he is an individual who knows how to laugh and cherish every moment he has with his peers, and will often ask a fellow member to join him on his morning Earl Grey or evening Guinness, both of which he always wants to drink with good company.
