Games don't even have manuals anymore. Just some trashy tutorial the devs force you to play through at the beginning of the game. No cool manuals with interesting lore and tidbits about the gameworld. Nada. Bioware actually took this greed to a different level a few years ago. They released The World of Thedas. Which is basically just a manual for Dragon Age. The stuff in it is just bits of lore (with lots of artwork) etc, that you found in a standard rpg manual 20 years back. Even the BG manuals has this. I always loved having the manual at hand. Forget something? Pick up the manual and search for it. Waiting for it to install? Pick up the manual and read it. Just finished a difficult puzzle that you don't want to do again? Pick up the manual and write in the notes. Now it's. Forget something? Too fucking bad, Google it or play around until you remember it. Waiting for it to install? Too fucking bad, go do something else. Just finished a difficult puzzle that you don't want to do again? Too fucking bad, go write it down somewhere on a sheet of paper or Google it. But manuals cost money to make. Better to not do that and charge the users for a manual or hint book, they may as well make the game manual a DLC
