I've said it before in these forums but I get great joy out of the fact that all through the 80s the WESTERN WORLD always poked fun at countries like Russia and China and how bad they were and how they don't have human rights, freedom, and all that jazz. Then you wind the time machine to the mid 2000's and the present day and you find that the so called freedom loving West is trying their hardest to be just like these countries with mass spying and stuff that would never have been dreampt of in the past on their own citizens..

The problem with that though is that often the sitting government just ignores any ruling from the high court, no matter which party, by endlessly appealing them or other legal tricks. Like the current asylum seeker rulings which I think have been made.

Can't appeal any High Court decisions, whatever the High Court says is final. Though loop holes are always possible, though outright ignoring it... may be problematic. Don't think anyone would have the balls for it.
