Youtube is a fantastic tool if you know how to use it. You can literally learn new skills from scratch just by watching YouTube and practising what you've learnt.
I know someone who is learning how to knit just by watching YouTube tutorials and through practice. Spend loads of money on swimming lessons? That is so last century. Watch some videos, start swimming and go to the deep end when you're ready. Are you struggling with your maths homework? There are plenty of videos on that too.
Okay. Maybe you don't wish to learn new stuff. Perhaps you just want to sit back and be entrained. Take you pick. Music, dancing, comedy, acrobatics, shorts etc. Yes there are a lot of garbage here, but if you look hard enough you'll find some real gems.
Want more discussions about stuff happening in the world? Want to hear multiple points of view? Well YouTube has a wealth of social commentators.
Maybe you've picked up a very niche hobby. YouTube has got you covered.
YouTube is amazing in my opinion. Which is why I'm so disappointed that they treat their content creators so appallingly. I would recommend this place as a giant collection of videos tied to a search engine. However I just wouldn't recommend YouTube as a means of making a living. Granted it is hard to make money off YouTube if the site is running properly. You have to garner lots of views to receive the benefit of ad revenues which is challenging in and of itself. However when you factor unfair DMCA claims, take downs without any reason provided etc then your job as a YouTube content creator is more uncertain than any other job out there. (That's saying a lot, given how uncertain job security is these days).
On a positive note you can set up a Pateron account. You may not have the biggest following, however if you've somehow managed to acquire a handful of fans (I mean actual fans, not just people who watch your stuff) they will want to donate to your channel. Why? Because if they don't donate money, they lose out on a content creator that they admire.
