For the record, Saudi Arabia executed the Shia al-Nimr along with around a dozen other Sunni "insurrectionists," so many believe that they just threw the high ranking Shia in there to distract from the fact that they are killing "their own" just as unfairly. I would say Iran is the loser here, but there is an undeniable fact - Saudis don't have their own army. Erik Prince (of Darkness) may be more than willing to bring his Columbian soldiers of fortune into Yemen now, but if the Saudi family wants to keep playing chicken with bottoming out oil prices just so they can try to cripple Iran's economy, they may run out of play money to fund their mercs. Israel is probably leaning towards the urine-soaked pants, because the US just entered into an unprecedented trade agreement with Iran, while also being in the Saudi's back pocket for decades. With American foreign policy appearing to be hedging their bets across the board, the feeling that someone has their back has got to be feeling a little more shaky than in the past.

I wasn't referring to the Byzantine Empire, but it was still the wrong word to use in this situation. My bad. There was no way Europe was really gonna put much effort in helping the Byzantine Empire b/c they were Orthodox. Europe saw the Byzantine Empire at best as a buffer against Muslims from the Levant, it seems. They are much better countries than Saudia fucking Arabia. It would be tough for the US become allies w/ Iran. It doesn't help that politicians in America had, for a time until the nuclear deal went through, to talk aloud about bombing Iran.
