I'm pretty sure that Saudia Arabia is the big bad of the region. They fund many ultraconservative Islamic organizations, their embrace of Wahhabism, their Byzantine views and cultural values, most of the 9-11 terrorists were from Saudi Arabia, and whatever other dastardly and backwards deeds. Don't make fun of Byzantine Empire. It's dead serious business! If the west Europe actually helped Byzantine Empire instead of weakening it 1000-800 years ago, there was no Ottomans to begin with (who screwed East Europe) and their descendants would keep this region quite secure. Sounds like some pretty shitty friends. Is the oil worth supporting a regime that has helped to keep the Middle East in the 14th century and gives support to extremist groups. Yes. Iran, Malaysia and Indonesia can simply be said that are much better countries than Saudi Arabia. Also RIP Syria. Oops. I wasn't referring to the Byzantine Empire, but it was still the wrong word to use in this situation. My bad. There was no way Europe was really gonna put much effort in helping the Byzantine Empire b/c they were Orthodox. Europe saw the Byzantine Empire at best as a buffer against Muslims from the Levant, it seems. They are much better countries than Saudia fucking Arabia. It would be tough for the US become allies w/ Iran. It doesn't help that politicians in America had, for a time until the nuclear deal went through, to talk aloud about bombing Iran. I can't say if Iran appreciates that sort of talk. Saudia Arabia has the oil, and they've bought America's friendship w/ it.
