What's the big deal about SJWs, anyway? A lot of people are freaking the hell out about them and I'm just not seeing it. "Safe zones" are frickin stupid but I see no more reason to freak out over them than, say, a sphere of ultra-religious cultists. Worst I can see them affecting people is annoyances on the internet. I'm not convinced it's worth freaking out over or that it's as big an issue as it's made out to be but I do hear a LOT of painfully stupid complaints that come from it. I think Anita sums it up best "Everything is sexist, everything is racist, everything is homophobic and you have to be pointing it out all the time" My main issue is how that everything gets generalized. Let's say you have a person making videos that critique gender stereotypes in a medium, and then someone comes along and says "well, some of the information you provided about this specific show/game is not accurate" then essentially it gets boiled down to a "you just hate woman" context and lumped together with actual harassment happening and just gets thrown out the window. It's like you either agree completely or you actively stand against everything they say. A lot of it just feels like who can sling the most mud at the other side and make it stick? Both sides admittedly do it a fair bit. There's another guy who basically sums everything up as "You either agree with me or you want me shot. Do you want me shot? That's SICK! Why would I be around a person who wants me shot" As some other random examples of some cases that I've seen cause some issues: -A person saying using twitter gave her PTSD -A journalist saying that complimenting a woman on her dress is no different whatsoever then telling her you want to shove her against the wall and r*** her -A guy who is videotaped throwing himself in front of a car that is moving like 5KM an hour and then demanding the person who hit him apologize and resign from his job -People condemning the Interview for being racist but celebrating when people are threatened if the movie comes out Honestly though, it's easier for the internet to make it seem like a bigger issue then it is and blow it out of proportion I feel. MOST people you could call SJW I think are decent enough people. It's just a case where often the vocal minority drowns out the rational side of things. Just my take on it though.
