I was watching the movie with a star-wars-fan colleauge from work ... and afterwards we ofcourse talkedit over. And I was suprised that he wasn't really sure or convinced Rey is a Skywalker. For me it was clearly show, but my colleauge was able to put some doubts in me - as in "Wouldn't it be too obvious" etc...I also only realized they never really make it "sure" she is a Skywalker, its never said exactly, and neither Han nor Leia seem to know if Rey is really their niece...but lets have a look:
Rey shows she is an expert fighter in the Falcon-scenes, and "has no idea how she maganged it etc"- Both Anakin and Luke were great pilots (that name, huh). Probably because they are attuned to the force
Rey is drawn to Lukes saber - and has a rather personal vision from the Force there.
Right after, Maz tells her not to leave for Jakku (where she hopes to wait for ehr family), but that what she searches and wishes for is in front of her, not behind her. And in the end of her travel, she finds Luke...
Rey is powerful in the force and probably got some basic training as a very young child? At least I got that vibe when she pushed back Kylos mindprobing-attempt and managed to control the Trooper. Many people call bullshit here that she could do this without training and had those abilities Force-Level 10 or so ... but if she is a Skywalker? Got training? And the damn force is almost a living thing, choosing her as a vessel in that moment? I am sure in her training in Ep 8 she will not have those abilities, and that it was more like someone in a tough situation suddenly having enormous physical power etc...we'll see
And very symbolic: When Kylo tries to grab Luke's saber with the force he can't do it and - it flies right into Rey's hands. Awesome scene by the way.
Maybe its a red herring? Like many believed from the trailers Finn is the Jedi (nicely played, Abrams ^^)
I think not, but ... why did Luke then never care about his daughter? All those years? And neither Han nor Leia seem no have a suspision? Especially Leia after she must have heard Rey held her own against Kylo...
My speculation is: Luke doesn't even know Rey is his daughter? That her mother hid her away from both the Knights of Ren AND Luke, and she died long before she could come back to pick Rey up again or tell anyone about her heritage? So far, makes the most sense. And if that unknown woman even has red hair and was quite active for the imperial remnant before she fell in love with Luke - all the better ^^
About Finn as a Jedi, I am not so sure. He gave no signs at all he has a connection, but then, who knows. With the Knights of Ren being quite a couple of Darksiders, only having Rey? Nah, we need a couple of more sabers for the final battles ^^
Last but not least: I still try to make up my favorite scenes...
Kylo vs. Han was, even though I knew it all along, really chilling. I knew it inside me, because Ep8 must be all about Luke, and Han would still the show or be reduced to a side-character, both no good. So he had to go, and killed by his son, changing Kylo from the Emo-Sith to the guy that killed beloved Han Solo?! The right call. Otherwise Kylo would only be remembered for his cool outfit and loss failures (like Darth Maul ?). And poor Chewie going on a rampage after this was glorious and sad at the same time
Kylo vs. Rey, first time: Interrogation-scene. Kylo all cocky and arrogant, until Rey pushes him out and tells him his biggest fear is not to be as good as Vader...great.
Kylo vs. Finn vs. Rey: Finally a great, intense, emotional saber-fight again. Hacking at each other, felling trees, the snow, Kylo hammering at his wounded side, Rey catching and igniting the saber...that was Star Wars!
So, all of them involve Kylo Ren. I was sceptical about him, but damn, he has potential. I wonder if we will see him evolve now. He was just a Vader-wannabe, with doubts and conflicts within him. What will Snoke do to this? I see here a much better character-arc coming than, well, a certain other one...
