Well, I've seen it, and I'm sorry to say that I largely agree with the critics.
Most of the character development is quite entertaining, but the plot once it is revealed just seems nonsensical. I'm actually getting angrier the more I think about that plot. I'm struggling to understand how the writers of the last three Batman movies and Man of Steel, thought provoking movies with riveting plots and deep character development, managed to come up with this film.
The movie isn't complex, and it isn't really that deep. All the interesting philosophical questions it asks about concentrations of power and it's effects on people are in the trailer (and Watchmen now that I think about it). Before it can start to address any of those it devolves into some of the dumbest CGI fight scenes I've seen in Batman or Superman movies for a while (well, maybe except for one fight which was actually quite cool). The only conclusion that the movie seems to put forward about people is that they are stupid and easily manipulated. I can understand if Superman is that way since he's literally just born with his power and only recently started regularly using it, but every one of these other characters? I'm really scratching my head wondering how these wise (looking?) mature folks who got to the level we find them in this movie, managed to make the monumentally hair-brained decisions they do here.
The story is busy, but not at all difficult to follow. There is just a lot happening with no real point to any of it - well, no point other than an obvious conscious setup for sequels or franchise spin-offs. Additionally, the ending felt overlong and unbelievably misplaced.
*Cough* So... I'm probably going to watch it again.
[Edit] Seen it again, and I did come away with a new perspective that made me like it more. Essentially, the movie made a lot more sense as Batman sequel, and in paying attention to his character arc I did find it much more uplifting (shocking for a movie this dark). Of course, that means it is missing its previous Batman installment, which is kinda cheap. Also, the special effects look WAY better in 2D; in 3D they just look fake.
